Experience daily yoga and meditation sessions overlooking the lake, lazy afternoons by the pool, a dip in the fresh-water lake, peaceful walks, stunning scenery and colourful wildlife.
Imagine being able to escape the bustle of everyday life, for a week of total relaxation and inner stillness. You have discovered the perfect way to unwind, relax and reclaim yourself. A mystical fusion of yoga, meditation and an opportunity to embrace the magic of India awaits you.
The beautiful retreat of Basunti is surrounded on three sides by a vast lake, with the snow-clad peaks of the Himalayan foothills as a back-drop. It lies within a wildlife reserve on the western edge of Kangra Valley in the hill state of Himachal Pradesh.
As you nestle within the soothing grounds of Basunti’s tropical gardens, picture eagles soaring overhead, mongoose bustling across jungle tracks, peacocks roaming the meadows below and cows wandering home in the dappled sunlight each evening.
Basunti is a jewel, the kind of magical place that you spend months looking for if you were travelling independently through India, and still never find.
A typical day
Typically, your day will start in the open-air thatched-roof shala, directly overlooking the lake, with an energising early morning yoga session, followed by meditation and breakfast. The shala with its marble floor remains refreshingly cool at all times of the day and is perfect for magical sunrises.
There will be optional activities before and after lunch; holistic therapies, coaching or 1-2-1 sessions on offer throughout the day.
You will also have opportunities to explore the beautiful surrounding area on foot or by canoe; or simply lounge by the pool, enjoying the sights, sounds and feelings of total relaxation.
Before dinner, there will be a restorative yoga and meditation class on the roof of the main house. The terrace has a 360° panoramic view of the lake and is the perfect location for atmospheric sunsets. Evening practice invites you to let go, relax and explore your inner world of peace and gratitude.
The evenings are free for quiet personal reflection and integration, unwinding on the terrace, reading a book, or socialising with fellow retreat guests if you wish.
Wholesome food & healthy juices
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served buffet style in the main house dining room with views over the garden.
Meals are freshly prepared using fruits and vegetables grown in Basunti's own gardens whenever possible, supplemented by produce bought in the local markets.
The kitchen at Basunti, under the direction of Dave Butterworth (a founder member of Neal’s Yard bakery) produces a mouth-watering array of both European and local vegetarian dishes, whole wheat breads and pastries, fresh juices from its fruit trees and the option of fresh line caught fish from the lake for non-vegetarians.
Your accommodation for the retreat is based upon twin, double or triple rooms with ensuite and shared bathroom facilities available. Comfort is combined with spectacular views.
If you are travelling with friends, please let us know at the time of booking, so that you can stay together if this is your preference. Otherwise, you will be paired with a retreat participant of the same gender in a shared room.
